I need to learn more about solar power in order to add it to the sailboat. No idea what I need and definitely want the smallest system that provides what I’ll need before circumnavigation begins
I like the stove oven. It seems miles away from that first picture of the red propane camp stove. That's not a bad thing in my opinion, just interesting to see the evolutions of the whole process and life.
Lot's of questions, but as I said before, I'll hunt for the answer before I ask them.
Thanks! Yep, we even started digging the hole and lines, buuuut..
The ground uphill from the house was SO hard and rocky we couldn't dig it with the tractor. The slope is steep we were digging for the lines by hand. It started to become a fool's errand so for now, it's abandoned.
Sorry to hear. Got any friends that have access to explosives? :D
Could always try to make a hill and put the tank into it. Would require a lot of work and dirt but it's possible.
In reality, a DC well pump doesn't draw that much, and you could put the tank somewhere lower even and pump it up to the house. If you have a pressure tank at the house it would store some so the pump would not need to run every time you need water.
Love your shares about off-grid living. 🤙🙏Have you folks done any research on better batteries for your solar power system? I’ve looked at more modern battery technology, but invariably the new tech doesn’t like the cold so much…. a problem when off-grid in Maine and only being on site part time.
We've researched newer things such as lithium and been told they can be great, but until the technology is more proven, AGM seems like the better choice - especially in cold climates!

Nice progress! Have you thought about doing a buried cistern above the house? So it doesn't freeze and you can have a bit more water.

Thank you Gary,

It’s the small things that make us appreciative. Love to read your progress. Good read!
I really enjoyed reading about how you do things up there! Thanks for sharing :)
